Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - Department of Social Sciences

Application and Enrolment

After nomination by their home university, potential exchange students must take part in an online application process. The application window for applications for the winter semester or for the entire year runs from April 1st to May 31st, and for the summer semester from October 1st to November 30th.

The applications, including results of the language test (see below), are reviewed and the applicant will receive an answer by email from the International Office within the application processing window. This nomination, with which the HU confirms the choice of department, must be signed by the ERASMUS coordinator of the home university and stamped (with an official university stamp) as well as signed by the applicant. Finally, the nomination document must be sent to the address given in the nomination email.

A comprehensive step-by-step guide to the process is available on the website of the International Office.

Language Requirements for a course of study at the Department of Social Sciences

  • If applicants achieve less than 60 points (B2) in the C-Test they will be required to complete an intensive language course prior to the beginning of their course of study. This can be completed at the HU (Preparatory German Intensive Course) but is subject to a participation fee (450 Euro). 50 points (B1) in the C-Test is a requirement for participation in the preparatory German intensive course.
  • We ask that applicants take the C-Test themselves and provide their results at the end of the online application.
