We will discuss research design strategies and revisit commonly used methods in comparative political analysis. Students interested in taking this class should aim to write their thesis in the field of comparative politics, preferably with the intention of applying quantitative methods analyzing questions around political violence, war, or autocratic politics.
Please contact lecturer with a two-page exposé on their ideas (topic, research question, methods, data) for the thesis prior to admission

#53172 Research Design and Implementation
The overarching aim of this course is to support students in further developing their PhD (or MA) projects by focusing on various aspects of their research designs. It is neither a methods nor a methodology course. Instead, the course is hands-on and designed to help students work on their prospectuses. Therefore, we will not discuss extensive readings lists, but will focus instead on presenting, discussing, and discussing again your research designs. For most sessions, students will prepare sections of their prospectus which we will jointly improve. The discussions will help students to sharpen their research perspective and to advance their research design. Class participation and joint discussions will be crucial to achieve these goals.
BGSS course: For advanced MA students only! Please contact lecturer for admission.
Please note: the course will start only 28. April. We will hold double sessions later in the semester to make up for the missed sessions.
