Kurdish cinema is categorized as such since the 2000s and it’s a transnational cinema produced from various locations including Turkey, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, Britain, Iran, Iraqi Kurdistan, and Rojava. Now that Kurdish people do not have a recognized state, their cinematic production embodies transnationalism, and their diasporic filmmaking mostly originates in and through Europe. Furthermore, due to the limited Kurdish history writing Kurdish filmmakers use their cameras like a pen to write, record, and question their memories and histories. Leaning on this background during the Lange Nacht film screening Ayşe Polat's documentary The Others (2016) and L. Rezan Yeşilbaş's short film Silent (2012) will be screened, and afterward there will be a Q&A session with the attendance of the directors.

Ayşe Polat, born in 1970, has lived in Germany since she was eight. Her films were awarded at various film festivals.

L. Rezan Yeşilbaş, born in 1977, won the Palme d'Or for Short Films at Cannes with his film Silence (2012).
