Call for Submissions for the “Bosphorus Prize” Essay Competition


Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Blickwechsel: Contemporary Turkey Studies, GeT MA - German Turkish Masters Program in Social Sciences and Berlin Bosphorus Initiative are partnering to offer a prize for papers on “The EU, Germany and Turkey Relations: Challenges and Prospects”. The partnership aims to encourage opportunities to study and foster the debate around German-Turkish relations, with a focus on economic and political ties. The prize will publicly be awarded during a joint panel event in Berlin.


Eligibility

 

- All Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin students (undergraduate, graduate levels) and the students of the Master of Arts International Relations (MAIB) Berlin/Potsdam are eligible.


Requirements


- Length: min. 2000, max. 2500 words, including references.
- Format: typewritten in 11-point font, and double-spaced.
- Language: English.
- No multiple submissions.


Prize


- All three papers will be published online at the websites of Berlin Bosphorus Initiative and Department of Social Sciences of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
- First Prize: 1000 € and the author of winning paper will be invited to attend BBI and Institut du Bosphore joint seminar in Istanbul that is held every year and a visit of the TUSIAD office could be organized to meet high level representatives of a sector s/he is particularly interested in.
- Second and Third Prize: 500€

- Submissions will be reviewed by a joint Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Berlin Bosphorus Initiative selection committee and will be judged based on definition and significance of topic, the quality of research, and clarity and cogency of writing.
- Results will be announced by Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the prize will be publicly awarded during a joint panel event organized by Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Blickwechsel: Contemporary Turkey Studies, GeT MA - German Turkish Masters Program in Social Sciences.

 

Berlin Bosphorus Initiative (BBI) was founded in 2013 in Berlin as an initiative of TUSIAD, the Turkish Industry and Business Association, with the aim of improving economic and social ties between Turkey and Germany, supporting Turkey’s EU bid as well as intensifying the civil society dialogue between the two countries.
