Personal Profile

Laura Gorriahn is a research associate at the chair of Political Theory at Humboldt University Berlin. From 2016 to 2020, she worked at the Centre for Politics and Law at the Otto-Suhr-Institute at Free University of Berlin. Laura holds an M.A. “Human Rights and Democratisation” from the European Inter-University Centre Venice and the Eric-Castren Institute of International Law and Human Rights Helsinki and studied Political Science, History and German Studies at the University of Freiburg and Trinity College Dublin (M.A. equivalent). In her dissertation project, she scrutinises precarious democratic membership as a manifestation of the controversial relationship between state exclusion and universal equality. The study combines perspectives from democratic theory and critical migration studies and looks at protest of refugees and their supporters. From September 2022 to January 2023 Laura is a visiting fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, Department of Political and Social Sciences.
