Alumni Talks
"Career with Europe", 8 May 2015
This year the first Euromasters-Alumni-Talk for social scientists with a focus on European studies took place. Mostly interested students with a social sciences background attended the event. The event was organized by the Euromasters program and the International Network for European Studies (INES). As a representative from INES - and a Euromasters graduate - Nicole Kaim hosted the evening while graduates of the Euromasters as well as of the GeT MA Program of the Department of Social Sciences.
Petya Alexandova (Postdoctoral Researcher at Leibniz Universität in Hanover), Philipp Andree (Consultant at the German Chamber of Commerce - DIHK), Antje Roß (Junior Consultant at s.Pro-sustainable projects GmbH) and Tobias Schaaf (Research Associate in the German Bundestag) were invited to talk about their experiences with finding their first job, negotiating salary, networking etc.
All participants at the panel are quite satisfied with their current job situation and as Tobias Schaaf mentioned, the European perspective during their studies created an edge for their job applications. Internships also helped to gain experience and to create a network, which is next to academic expertise essential to find a job after graduation. Antje Roß stated that as a graduate one should not be shy to negotiate salaries and be confident about one’s skills. She also added that after several job applications, everyone found a job according to their specifications. After the panel discussion, participants and attendants were invited for drinks and snacks for an informal talk.
