Elen Budinova won the Humboldt-Price 2019

Elen Budinova has been awarded this year's Humboldt Prize for her Master's thesis Trajectories of Crimean Separatism. From Prevented Post-Soviet Conflict to Irredentist Overtake.

The work, which was supervised by Prof. von Steinsdorff, deals with the takeover of Crimea by Russia. The author examines which factors led to Russia taking over the Crimea without a violent conflict, identifying Russian irredentism caused by the rapprochement of Ukraine with the European Union as the main force over weak Ukrainian institutions in the Crimea.

We congratulate Mrs. Budinova and wish her all the best for her future life!
