Erste Podcast-Episode des Equal Lives Project
EqualLives is one of 13 simultaneous, transnational research projects funded by NORFACE to investigate the “Dynamics of Inequality Across the Life-course” (DIAL). The results of this project will be presented in several podcast episodes.
In the first episode from December 5, 2019, Anette Fasang and Marika Jalovaara from the University of Türku tackle the question:Do Nordic countries live up to their promise of creating fairer and more equal societies? This question is addressed in their article Family Life Courses, Gender and Mid-Life earnings behandelt. The study examines whether the Nordic countries' reputation for pursuing family-friendly policies that create a fairer and more equal society is justified. Using register data from Finland, the researchers examine adult earnings based on their family life course and identify two groups of young adults that should be a focus for policy makers and researchers in the future.

Lecture and book presentation
On December 13, 2018, Vered Kraus and Yuval Yonay will present their book “Facing Barriers: Palestinian Women in a Jewish-Dominated Labor Market” at the Institute of Social Sciences. The two researchers from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Haifa explain:
"Over the past 35 years, Palestinian women have become increasingly active in the formal labor market in Israel. Our book describes and analyzes the labor experience of these Palestinian women and explains why Palestinian and Jewish women have different rates and outcomes in the labor market. Challenging popular views that ascribe these differences to Arab culture and Islam, we find that it is state policies and economic barriers that hinder Palestinian women's participation and success.
Our analysis includes the various Palestinian sub-groups—Muslims, Bedouins, Druze, Christians, non-citizen residents of Jerusalem—and it shows how the specific life circumstances of the women from these subgroups affect their employment and achievements. The book provides an understanding of the contemporary possibilities and challenges faced by Palestinian women in the world of work as well as their prospects for the future."
