International Network

The BGSS is part of an international network of graduate schools, universities and research institutions fostering exchanges on the doctoral and faculty level.

 

European PhD in Socio-economic and Statistical Studies

Since 2009 the BGSS has been the coordinating institution of the European PhD in Socio-economic and Statistical Studies (SESS.EuroPhD) with a consortium of eight universities (Haifa, ELTE Budapest, Barcelona, La Sapienza Rome, Tampere, Southampton, Lille, and Université Libre de Bruxelles). Doctoral Researchers starting at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin are automatically members of Berlin Graduate School of Social Sciences.

 

European Doctoral Programme - Europe in its Global Context

The European Doctoral Programme (EDP - www.europeandoctoralprogramme.com) is an advanced international study programme for doctoral research and training in the Human and Social Sciences launched by the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the Istituto Italiano di Scienze Umane, the Central European University, the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales and the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes in 2010 and aiming at the establishment of a European doctoral school and a European doctoral degree. Starting in 2012, the EDP will establish a new curriculum in the Social Sciences which explores the question of how the political, economic and cultural construction of “Europe” has been shaped by and has shaped its global context. It is run by the BGSS together with the Istituto Italiano di Scienze Umane and the Central European University.

 

European Graduate Network

In 2010 the BGSS was admitted as an official member of the European Graduate Network, a network of seven top graduate schools in Europe (EUI, University of Barcelona Pompeu Fabra, Institut d’Études Politiques (Sciences Po) Paris, London School of Economics, and Central European University Budapest, SUM). The aim of the Graduate Network is to bring together graduate students of sociology and political science from leading universities in Europe. The network encourages and facilitates collaborative research of the PhD students of the participating universities, emphasizing multi- and inter-disciplinary approaches to political and social sciences. In spring 2012, the BGSS has hosted the 4th Graduate Network Conference.

Guest Doctoral Researchers

The BGSS regularly hosts guest researchers of foreign Graduate Schools for the duration of 3 to 12 months. Contingent on our capacity, guests are accepted throughout the year and provided support and workspace in our offices.
